Once you have a majority of your components and modules installed inside your Joomla installation, and are ready to start organizing the actual website you're creating, you will need to begin by figuring out how you're going to separate your "Content" and "Sections" of your Joomla website. It sounds easy enough, but the process of organizing the site's structure is probably the biggest and most important task you will need to finish. First you should have a clear understanding of what Joomla's Categories and Sections actually are. >
> Joomla Sections are on the top of the hierarchy list when figuring out your website's organization strategy. The Joomla sections are the broadest terms used to separate content. All of the Joomla Categories are underneath the Sections. So, for example, you want to display a database of articles.
>
> Your Joomla Section will be titled: Articles
> Your Joomla Category might be titled: Technology
> Another Joomla Category might be titled: Entertainment
>
> You get the idea...The important thing to remember when building up your content and labeling your Joomla Sections and Categories is that order in which they need to be done. Before you can add even one piece of content to your site, you must have a Joomla Section and Category with which to place it in. Also, before you can create a Category, you must have a Section labeled so that you can put your category underneath it.
>
> When beginning the main structure and content within your site, you first need to come up with a sections and categories within your Joomla installation. Think long and hard about the labels you choose, because once you put a piece of content within the labels, you will have to go back and change everything if you want to change the section names or category names.
>
> Another important fact about Joomla sections and categories, is that you will have to create menus that link to these portions of your site. So, if your creating a section entitled: Articles, you are pretty much setting in stone the fact that you want a menu item named: Articles. Otherwise, how will you users be able to access the articles? Final word is that you should plan out your Joomla sections and categories as if you were playing chess. Strategize, and think ahead...What is this Section going to mean? What will the section do? What categories will go beneath it? How will my website users access it?
>
> Good Luck with your Joomla Sections and Categories, and although Joomla is already set up for you, don't forget the fact that the biggest obstacle in creating and designing a website is the organizational strategy. This is your job!
